Our Story & Mission

Fireheart Counseling centers the queer community and trauma survivors who have been made to feel like they are too much. People who want to share their stories and embrace their identities. People who have done years of thinking and are ready for something deeper.

At Fireheart Counseling, we approach therapy as both intimate and political. Systems impact nervous systems. Marginalization leaves a physiological imprint. And surviving isn’t the same thing as living.

We believe that healing comes from many places; within communities, among friends and found family, and inside and beyond the therapy room. Authenticity, safety, and advocacy lay at the heart of our work.

Welcome! I’m so glad you are here.

Hello peers & queers!

I’m Karr, the founder of Fireheart Counseling, Licensed Professional Counselor and wounded healer with a burning passion to support the healing journey of others.

I am an avid reader and obsessed with all things fantasy. At my core, I am a lifetime learner and dedicated challenger. I enjoy exploring the way systems operate, how they impact us today, and ways we can resist and challenge as a collective.

My partner and I are raising two fur babies, Sophie & Moby who are the cuddliest dogs I have ever met. You may see either or both dogs make an appearance in our sessions. We hope to train Sophie to be a therapy dog, so stayed tuned for updates!

When I am not working with clients, you can find me with my head in my kindle, spending far too many hours playing video games, or in some other hobby I am currently hyper-fixated on only to forget about a month later!

My Story

I became a trauma therapist because I saw how our communities, and society has treated so many survivors. I saw how survival strategies — hypervigilance, dissociation, people-pleasing, rage were labeled as pathology. I saw how therapy rooms sometimes asked survivors to soften themselves, or separate their trauma from the systems that shaped it. And I decided to approach healing in a different way.

In our work together, we slow down. We listen to what your body has been carrying. We make room for grief, desire, rage, and softness. We acknowledge the way systems have harmed us, and identify ways to strengthen your connection to others, to your community, and to yourself. Together, we create space that allows your nervous system to rest, and that allows yourself to begin to heal.
