The Benefits of Opting Out of Insurance:
-
Insurance companies require a mental health diagnosis in order to reimburse for therapy. When you choose not to use insurance, we are not required to submit a diagnosis to a third party. This can help protect your privacy and give you greater control over your personal health information, while also reducing the risk of limitations on your care imposed by insurance companies and the current administration.
-
Insurance companies often determine what is covered, how long services can continue, and which types of therapy or interventions are considered “medically necessary.”
Choosing private pay allows you and your therapist to collaborate on a treatment plan based on your unique needs, goals, and pace without external restrictions. This creates more flexibility, autonomy, and advocacy over your care.
-
When you choose not to use insurance, you gain flexibility in both the length and frequency of your sessions. This freedom allows you and your therapist to collaborate more creatively in your care, exploring options like therapy intensives and tailoring treatment to truly fit your needs.
The Superbill Process
Fireheart Counseling can provide a superbill for all out of network plans to support in reimbursement.
What is a superbill?
A superbill is an itemized receipt provided by your therapist that provides the dates and diagnostic/billing codes for the services provided to submit to your insurance plan for out of network reimbursement. Out of network benefits can reimburse 50-80% of the out of pocket expenses for therapy.
How does it work?
It’s easy! You will pay for your own sessions at the time of service. At the end of the month, your therapist will provide you with a superbill. You will provide your insurance company with this superbill, and your insurance company will reimburse for your therapy sessions depending on your out of network benefits.
