Insurance
We are currently an out of network provider, however, if your insurance plan has out of network benefits, we are happy to provider a superbill.
What is a superbill?
A superbill is a document your therapist provides at the end of every month for you to submit to your insurance plan for out of network reimbursement.
How does it work?
It’s easy! You will pay for your own sessions at the time of service. At the end of the month, you will provide your insurance company with your superbill, and your insurance company will reimburse for your therapy sessions depending on your plan.
Why we decided to not work with insurance:
-
Insurance companies require a mental health diagnosis in order to reimburse for therapy. When you choose not to use insurance, we are not required to submit a diagnosis to a third party. This can help protect your privacy and give you greater control over your personal health information, while also reducing the risk of limitations on your care imposed by insurance companies and the current adminstration.
-
Insurance companies often determine what is covered, how long services can continue, and which types of therapy or interventions are considered “medically necessary.”
Choosing private pay allows you and your therapist to collaborate on a treatment plan based on your unique needs, goals, and pace without external restrictions. This creates more flexibility, autonomy, and advocacy over your care.
-
At Fireheart Counseling, our mission is to empower both clients and clinicians to make thoughtful, collaborative decisions about care while actively advocating for and protecting each client’s right to access that care.
Our decision to remain private pay only supports these values, as it has long been acknowledged that our current system of mental healthcare and insurance does not work adequately, and often disproportionately impacts marginalized communities.
We believe in supporting you as you reclaim your power and pursue the kind of therapy that truly aligns with your needs while keeping you safe.
